Flinders Foundation Ribbon Ball raises more than $435,000 to support cancer research and care

A night of celebration and compassion has helped raise more than $435,000 to support cancer research and care at Flinders University, Flinders Medical Centre and beyond.

The 2025 Ribbon Ball, held on October 18 at the Adelaide Convention Centre, brought together hundreds of guests for an evening of fine dining, entertainment and generosity – with every dollar going towards improving outcomes for people affected by cancer.

Now a highlight on Adelaide’s charity calendar, the annual event is inspired by the ribbon, the universal symbol of cancer awareness. It reflects the Flinders Foundation’s commitment to advancing world-class research and providing exceptional care to patients and their families.

The gala featured a moving line-up of stories from those at the heart of the Flinders health community – researchers, clinicians and patients – highlighting the human impact of the Foundation’s work. Among them was ovarian cancer survivor Natalie May, who shared her personal journey alongside the story of her mother’s terminal lung cancer diagnosis at Flinders Medical Centre.

For guests, it was a night that combined purpose with celebration. A three-course meal was complemented by a show-stopping performance from Gospo Collective, while a spirited auction and raffle helped lift the fundraising tally to one of the best results in the event’s history.

Flinders Foundation executive director Ross Verschoor said the generosity of the community continues to play a crucial role in driving progress across cancer research and care.

“Funding cancer research and care at Flinders simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our community, our amazing sponsors and our generous donors,” Verschoor said.

Gospo Collective provided the entertainment on the night.

“Their ongoing commitment helps turn hope into progress – supporting the researchers and clinicians who are working together to create a future free from cancer.”

The funds raised will go directly towards initiatives that have a tangible impact – from advancing research and innovation in cancer prevention and treatment, to supporting patients and their families through every stage of their care.

Verschoor said community fundraising plays a vital role in enabling Flinders Foundation to continue its mission.

“At Flinders Foundation, we remain dedicated to enhancing outcomes for people affected by cancer through improved care and breakthroughs made possible by research – to detect, prevent, treat and support people living with cancer,” he said.
